As with all breeds, nutrition is a fundamental pillar in the life of the Lagotto Romagnolo. A proper diet is essential from the earliest stages of growth: it supports weaning, promotes balanced development of the body.

From weaning to 7 months

During the first weeks of life, until about 45 days, the puppy is still nursing and gradually begins the weaning process. From this stage up to 7 months of age, it is advisable to use Royal Canin Medium Puppy, a food specifically formulated to provide the right intake of nutrients that support growth.

After 7 months: adult diet

Once the most intense growth phase is over, from the seventh month onward, it is best to switch to adult food. This is because puppies — especially those living as family companions rather than working dogs — have a lower daily nutritional requirement. Continuing to feed puppy formulas for too long may lead to excess protein, which over time could put strain on the kidneys.
